The Mitteleuropa Orchestra, which has its roots in the musical tradition of the area of central and southern Europe, is the product of many decades of orchestral experience. In the early 2000s it found its institutional place thanks to the intervention of the Regional Administration of Friuli Venezia Giulia, and the support of the Municipalities and Provinces of the Region. It currently boasts 47 permanent orchestra members and a solid autonomous organisation; its headquarters are in Palmanova at the Loggia della Gran Guardia, a historical building dating from the 1500s that overlooks the splendid main square of this star-shaped city.
The Chief Conductor of the Orchestra, since January 2017, is the Maestro Marco Guidarini. His repertoire, as an indication of his great versatility, ranges from Baroque to Contemporary Music, and genres from classical music to crossover.
The Mitteleuropa Orchestra performs in different formations, ranging from symphonic to symphonic-choral orchestral formations, with string orchestra, wind orchestra, and chamber ensembles. It has received significant public and critical acclaim throughout Italy and abroad, in France, Tunisia, Egypt, Morocco, Turkey, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia, Montenegro, and Albania. It has also been hosted at numerous international events, from the International Festival of Contemporary Music of the Venice Biennale to the Mittelfest, from the Pordenone Silent Film Festival, to the concert for the beatification of Pope John Paul II. It has been conducted by important personalities from the international music scene such as Niksa Bareza, Pascal Rophé, Tiziano Severini, Dmitri Jurowski, Aldo Ceccato, Muhai Tang, Oliver von Dohnányi, Krzysztof Penderecki, Luis Bacalov, Giampaolo Bisanti, Pietari Inkinen, John Axelrod, Ola Rudner, Emilio Pomarico, Vram Tchiftchian, Ernest Hoetzl, Philipp Von Steinaecker, Michele Carulli, Philippe Entremont, Jan Willem De Vriend, Alessandro Vitiello, Giovanni Pacor and it has performed with soloists of international fame like Sergeij Krilov, Ramin Bahrami, Roberto Fabbriciani, Michele Campanella, Bruno Giuranna, Louis Lortie, Alexander Lonquich, Alena Baeva, Pepe Romero, Lilya Zilberstein, Roberto Cominati, Giovanni Sollima, Yeon Ju Jeong, Jaroslaw Nadrzycki, Marianna Vasileva, Marija Špengler, Alessandro Scotto di Luzio, Daniel Müller-Schott, Karl Leister, Françoise de Clossey, Mauro Maur, Alexander Gadjiev, Héctor Ulises Passarella, Stefan Milenkovich, Laura Bortolotto, Evgeni Koroliov, Andrea Bacchetti, Daniela Barcellona.
In the Region, it collaborates with the Ente Regionale Teatrale on an important project of musical enhancement that covers the entire territory of Friuli Venezia Giulia; moreover together with the Italian Healthcare Agency it has programmed relevant interdisciplinary projects based on social inclusion through music and other innovative activities, specifically targeted to young audiences and to schools. The Mitteleuropa Orchestra is supported and financed by the Regional Administration of Friuli Venezia Giulia within the association Regional Orchestra of Friuli Venezia Giulia and also thanks to the support of the B.C.C. (Banca di Credito Cooperativo) and the partnership with the Friuli Foundation, since 2015 it has programmed its own concert season at the Gustavo Modena theatre in Palmanova.

His encounter with Ottavio Dantone and the “Accademia Bizantina” ensemble of Ravenna, Nicola’s hometown, strongly marked his artistic growth, and contributed to his interest towards the Baroque repertoire and performance. He graduated in cello at the Conservatory of Parma, where he also studied composition and orchestra conducting. After his studies he dedicated himself to the vocal and instrumental
repertoire of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, being able to put his knowledge in practice under the guidance of Ottavio Dantone, hence working on well known pages of repertoire, as well as on less known authors and unpublished scores, collaborating to the realisation of concerts, recordings and performances of many operas, including Olimpiade and Flaminio by Pergolesi, Die Entführung aus dem Serail and Così fan tutte, Annibale in Torino by Paisiello, Il viaggio a Reims and L’italiana in Algeri by Rossini, Giulio Cesare, Rinaldo, Alcina and Orlando, by Haendel, Tito Manlio by Vivaldi, Una Cosa Rara by Martin Soler, Orfeo, Il ritorno di Ulisse and L’incoronazione di Poppea by Monteverdi.
Being the assistant of Ottavio Dantone he took part in important productions at Teatro alla Scala of Milano, La Fenice of Venice, Teatro Comunale of Ferrara, Teatro Alighieri of Ravenna, Metropole of Lausanne, Opéra National du Rhin of Strasbourg, Palau de Les Arts of Valencia, Teatro Campoamor of Oviedo and Glyndebourne Festival. In 2014 he was assitant of M° Stefano Ranzani at Teatro Comunale in Piacenza for “Elisir D’amore” by G.Donizetti Next summer he will be assistan at Salzburg Festival. In December 2010 he made his debut on the podium conducting ‘La Grande Orchestra’ of Faenza. Ever since he has performed in several Italian cities, conducting orchestras on both modern and period instruments.
Among them: I Pomeriggi Musicali di Milano, Orchestra Sinfonica Rossini di Pesaro, Orchestra città di Ferrara, Orchestra Toscanini di Parma, Orchestra Sinfonica Principato de Asturia of Oviedo, Ensemble Musica Perduta.
His debut at the Opera was in 2012 at the Staatstheater Oper of Nurimberg, where he conducted Ezio by Gluck. Recently he has conducted Rossini’s Il barbiere di Siviglia in Spain, at the Teatro Campoamor of Oviedo and at the Teatro Jovellanos of Gijòn (during the seasons 2014 and 2015).
In 2013 he started the collaboration with the Accademia di Bel Canto of Modena (CUBEC), that is lead and animated by the famous soprano Mirella Freni, and he was the music director of this in – stitution for the year 2014-2015.
In this environment he went in depth in the belcanto repertoire.
In 2014 he created his own ensemble Dolce Concento, an ensemble on period instruments that aims to the performance of not only the baroque, but also the classic and romantic repertoires.
The favour of critics and the warm welcome of the public has brought the international attention towards him, and, despite his young age, he is considered an experienced and knowledgeable conductor for the baroque, classical and belcanto repertoires.
